Main Concerts at Petersham Festival

Monday 24th March - Emma Kirkby and Anthony Rooley
7.30pm St Peter’s Church £20 (£15 under 18s and Students)
“Honey from the Hive” – a recital of songs by John Dowland. Emma Kirkby, recently voted as one of the top twenty sopranos of all time, will be accompanied by Anthony Rooley, lute.

Tuesday 25th March – Michala Petri
7.30pm St Peter’s Church £20 (£15 under 18s and Students)
Michala Petri, the world’s leading recorder player, along with Lars Hannibal (guitar/lute) and Andrew Skidmore (‘cello) will play an entertaining programme ranging from Baroque to Contemporary works.

Wednesday 26th March – Richmond Youth Orchestra
7.30pm The German School £5 (£2.50 under 18s and Students)
Richmond Youth Orchestra, under the baton of renowned cellist Michal Kaznowski, will perform Debussy’s Little Suite, Beethoven’s Romance No 1, Saint-Saens’ Havanaise, and Haydn’s London Symphony with Rachel Gormley (violin).

Friday 28th March – Guo Yue
8.00pm St Peter’s Church £15 (£10 under 18s and Students)
A concert by Guo Yue, the renowned bamboo flautist who has played with Peter Gabriel and on the soundtrack for films such as “The Last Emperor”. He will be playing his own compositions along with classic Chinese songs and melodies accompanied by Mark Alcock (Taiko Japanese percussion).

Saturday 29th March – Sirocco Quartet
1.00pm St Peter’s Church £5
A lunchtime concert by the Sirocco Saxophone Quartet comprising students from the Royal College of Music. They will be including works by Handel, Gershwin, Albeniz and Glass.

Saturday 29th March – Andrew Skidmore (baroque ‘cello)
10.00pm St Peter’s Church £10
Andrew Skidmore, a Petersham resident, is a leading cellist and member of the Fitzwilliam Quartet. He will be playing unaccompanied Bach cello suites (Nos. 2 & 3) in an atmospheric, candelit St Peter’s Church.

Paul is winner of many piano competitions and also the ABAC
Premio Franz Liszt International Competition for composers. He will play popular classics from Bach to Liszt as well as some of his own compositions.

Young local singer/songwriter; acoustic set. Soul, Pop, R&B etc.

“The Thelonious Monk Influence”
Byron Wallen is widely recognised as a seminal figure in world jazz. He won the BBC prize for Innovation in Jazz in 2003 for his Indigo album, is a 2007 MOBO best jazz nominee, and won the Langston Hughes commission from the South Bank Centre. Trevor Watkiss (piano) and Dave Whitford (double bass).
 

Friday 28th March - Japanese Taiko Drumming

10am-noon at Petersham Village Hall
A participative workshop led by Mark Alcock of Taiko Meantime, the renowned Japanese Taiko Drummers from Greenwich.

Samuel is a young jazz pianist studying Jazz at University of Leeds

Peter has performed at many celebrity events including film premier parties and fundraising events working with the likes of Lemar, Beverly Knight, the Sugababes, and more recently Emma Thompson and Jamie Cullum. Peter will play classical guitar music, from Spanish & Latin-American influences to arrangements of popular classics.

All paper and materials to be supplied. The eggs created may be entered into the Petersham Festival Egg-Rolling competition on Easter Monday.

Lecture on paintings of the view across Petersham from Richmond Hill (whilst observing the view!). Richard has been an educator and guide at the Tate Gallery for 20 years, and is also a practising artist. Unfortunately numbers are limited to 25 people.

Guo Yue will demonstrate his fine collection of bamboo flutes among the bamboo plants of the Palm Centre (weather permitting) We will also learn about bamboo, its history, usage and increasing importance and potential as an environmentally friendly material. Please bring something to sit on.
